How Online Games Reflect the Filipino Community
-by Zychez
The Philippines has been showered with technology and one of this is the
world of online gaming. This has been around the world for quite a while, but
only recently did it become a hit here in our country. This started about 3
years ago with Level Up! Inc. licensing “OZworld” for the Philippines. This MMOG
(Massively Multiplayer Online Game) allows players to assume online personas or
the so-called “avatars” and interact with other players in a virtual community
with houses, parks, shops and the like.
A couple of months later another game from Level Up! swept the online community
here by storm. This is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing
Game) called Ragnarok Online. This game captured the hearts of many gamers,
since the game has both a genre of RPG and also a live community.
More games followed suit, handled by different gaming companies like Mobius (MU
and Gunbound), NetPlay (PristonTale), NetGames (Khan), BeetleRock (Fairyland),
ABS-CBN Interactive (Tantra), Z-zone (Skyblade) and Level Up! Inc. (OZworld,
Ragnarok, R.O.S.E. and RF).
Since the games
have a large base of players, it will most likely contain every kind of person
you can find in the real world. Good guys, shy types, hot headed players, and
some others. What am I implying? The games have their own community and each of
those reflect part of what the Filipino community is. Some are good and some are
bad. The community sometimes reflect good things like being helpful with newbies
(the so called new players), being persistent, completive and such. But even
with that, we also reflect the negative side of ourselves. Scamming, being
hot-headed, acting like a bully, going against the rules and a couple lot more.
As a gamer, I’ve seen these things in almost all local games I’ve played. Some
are more rampant in one, a few in others. Being in an online community give you
a sense of anonymity but this does not mean that you can do anything you like.
All these games have Terms and Agreements that you accept when you register for
an account. Meaning, you should, by all means follow them and become an asset to
the community rather than another burden.
It won’t be easy filtering out people with these kinds of attitudes but at
least, those who aren’t should try and inform newbies into what should and what
should they not do. This would lessen the chances of another player falling into
the hands of the dark side. =P

This Christmas Season….
Hello Guys ^_^ Before the Christmas
vacation started we had the opportunity to watch an old documentary about kids
and about what they missed out in life…
I’d say it was quite good. I suggest you guys also check this one out…
“Minsan Lang Sila Bata”

Hmm... being able to see this documentary really made me think of where I am now, some of us may are fortunate enough to be able to live a good life, far from what those kids have.
This may be a documentary made a long time now , but
even if time passes by things like these wont go away that easily. This
Christmas season, think of these people and pray for them, and remember to be
thankful for what you received and will receive. And maybe in some small way,
try and share your blessing with the less fortunate people out there….
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas….~

Let the games…Begin!!
Ever wonder why some people are just so hung up on online games nowadays?
More and more MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing games) keep popping out in the local gaming industry and this really
riles up those avid gamers into
devoting more time to the said games. A couple of these so called local MMORPGs
are:
Ragnarok Online (levelupgames.ph)
MU Online(mobius.ph)
Khan Online(netgames.com.ph)
Tantra Online(www.tantra.com.ph)
Skyblade(www.z-zone.com.ph)
Priston Tale(www.netplay.com.ph)
Fairyland(www.fairyland.com.ph)
Gunbound(www.gunbound.com.ph)
OZ World(levelupgames.ph)
These games give you a virtual world in which you can create your own character, develop its abilities, interact with other people and do a lot more.
More people tend to like these games for a lot of reasons.
Some may do this to relieve themselves of stress, some play for interaction, others play competitively and some just play for pure, clean fun.
A new world where you can shape your avatar’s development and life...doesn't that sound interesting…
Playing games like these can bring both good and bad things. Know when to play and when to stop playing. Regulate your time and make sure you don’t forget to study and keep your grades up. ^_^
How about you? What’s your reason for playing?

Freshmen and Clinician’s Orientation
Last June 17, the Dentistry Department held the Orientation for the Freshmen
students and Clinicians. This was held at the ADAs Hotel function room and
started at around 8 in the morning.
The program started with the singing of the national anthem led by Glenesis and
then followed by a short prayer by Raelene. This was followed by a short
introduction of the Freshmen students led by our two emcees, Ryan and Bon. A
short intermission number was done by our own singers, Edison and Johnny. The
captivating voices of these two guys even made the crowd sing with them too,
even in low voices.
After the introduction of both the Freshmen, Clinicians and the other year
levels, Our Department Head, Dr. Shirley Wong discussed about the School’s
history together with the rules and regulations.
A couple more talks was done by
Jay, Isle and Nolan in regards with the uniform, activities and such.
After the talk, games followed suit. Bring me was one of the games that was
done, and was followed by a couple more.
The program ended with the group going back to the Dentistry Building for a
quick snack of Cheesesticks, Fishballs and much more.
This is just one of the activities the department is going to go through. I hope
the next activities will be as much fun as this one, or maybe even more.

Subic Boardwalk
Last January 16 and 17 the Dentistry Group went on a trip to Subic to loosen up on the activities from school. Meeting place was at the DMD Apartment near CEU at 6am.
The group
departed from Malolos at around 7am and travelled to McDonald's at San Fernando,
Pampanga to meet up with the other van containing the other guys. After a couple
of hours the group finally reached their destination : a 2-storey house situated
somewhere in the heart of Subic.
Exhausted and hungry from the trip, the Faculty and the others decided to go
shop for the group's lunch, while the other went to unpack their things and
smell the fresh air around them. As expected, a couple of the DMD student went
to the T.V. and sang their hearts our on the videoke. After a while, the Faculty
and the others came back from shopping and immediately prepared lunch. The food
was great, the air was fresh and there were monkeys too!
After cleaning up, the group now decided on taking a look at the sights. One
group went on shopping and also buy food for dinner while the others went to the
Subic Bay Boardwalk.
The Boardwalk was nice. Sand, wind, water and Ice Cream! While going down for a
dip at the beach, the others went on a picture taking spree.
The other bought
some accessories from the nearby vendors while most of the peeps ate ice cream.
After breathing the breeze of boardwalk, the guys decided to go to the park and
have more fun.
Ready, Set....Go! Kart galore! After the beach, the guys went to the park where
Go Karts were for rent. Also, there were boats, swings, bikes and a Train.
Some
of the brave peeps tried the Go Kart while the other went on a cool ride on the
boats. And of course, picture taking! The Faculty's group arrived after a while,
and the guys did some more pics at the Train. It wasn't working though. Doc and
the other went to the boardwalk and went on a dip too. After racing, boating and
pic taking, the guys finally got exhausted. Everyone went back home and got
ready for dinner.
Dinner is Served! The first year peeps did the grilling of the pork and fish for
dinner. The air was cool and it was a nice time to take a short stroll around
the vicinity. After dinner the guys took turns on the bathrooms to freshen
themselves up after a whole day's activity. At around 10pm, the guys went to the
living room to do some group activity.
Opening up, clearing those
misunderstandings and also getting to know each other more.
*Yawn* Good Morning Dent! Early mornings can be dull, but the guys know what to
do to wake themselves up, a dip in the pool and of course, Videoke ! The others
fixed breakfast...Bread, Ham, Hotdogs and some cereal too ~
After almost 2 days and 1 night, its time to go back to reality. The guys packed
their things and got ready to go ride home. A refreshing vacation from the
hectic schedule in school can really help the guys out. One by one the Dent
peeps dropped off at their respective places and went home. Most of them...after
finally reaching
